Medieval Castle Towers
Rovigo

In the heart of Rovigo's historical centre, the ancient fortified nucleus dominates, which traces its origins back to 920, the year in which Pope John X granted the Bishop of Adria authorisation to erect a castle to defend himself against barbarian attacks.
Today we can admire the remains of the city walls, but above all the two towers, emblems of the city: Torre Grimani, known as ‘Mozza’ due to its completely collapsed upper part, and Torre Donà, the latter with its 60-metre height is considered one of the main early mediaeval towers in Italy.
The castle towers are set in what is now the garden of Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, a place for meetings and entertainment.
Want to admire Rovigo from above? The ascent to Torre Donà is among the things to do in the city!
